July Global Theme: Rolling In the Deep

Weekly Theme: Honor Your Boundaries

Your CSL newsletter for July 17, 2025

Stay informed, engaged and inspired with Centers for Spiritual Living

Quote of the Week

“On the banks of this river, I surrender to the boundaries that land is teaching.
Yes, I surrender to the demands of my dream for you and for myself. Which is love. Which is abundant rest. Which is a visionary world that looks so much like a dream, but when you close one eye, it opens. ... If I can learn to sleep it is because my dreams are yours and for you and of us. It is because my love is an ocean, but my path is a river shaped by and that will heal us if we let it.”

From Marine Mammals," page 90

 Applications Open for the
Evergreen Pilot Grant

LINK: EVERGREEN GRANT GUIDELINES & APPLICATION

CSL international home office exists to serve your community’s spiritual and operational needs. Regardless of size or location, you are invited to apply for the Evergreen Grant Pilot Program. This grant program is intended to support a short-term strategic initiative in your community. The Evergreen Pilot Grant is being made available through a bequest from Rev. Franklin M. Privette, and CSL is deeply grateful.

Selected communities will receive up to $4,000 in seed funding for a growth initiative. It is the intention of CSL that repayment will be made in the future knowing your community will achieve measurable success using these funds. Repayment will be returned to the Evergreen Grant project to perpetuate the grant program so others may benefit.

Up to five (5) Evergreen Grant Pilots will each be provided with $4,000 to be used in a creative and an expectantly sustainable program. The program is yours to develop, lead and manage, knowing that the funding will serve as a catalyst to inspire action, strengthen resilience, and unite individuals and your community to become even more robust, resilient, stable and sustainable. We encourage creativity in presenting your initiative so it sets your community apart from others.

This Pilot Program is being managed by CSL’s Resource Development Committee. Applications became available on July 1, 2025. Applications must be returned to Michael Schlut, Director of Philanthropy, at MSchlut@CSL.org, and are due no later than 5 p.m. MT on July 31, 2025. Evergreen Grant recipients will be notified by email with awards expected within 45 days.

CSL’s intent is to keep the application simple, but if you have any questions or would like additional information, contact Michael at MSchlut@CSL.org or 720-279-1629.

On behalf of CSL, I encourage you to bring your creative, engaging and robust ideas to fruition. We look forward to receiving your application and learning about your project.

Sincerely,
Dr. Tye Minckler
Acting Executive Director

Spiritual Practice of the Week:
Finding Good News

YOUTUBE LINK: THE GOOD NEWS YOU MIGHT HAVE MISSED

Whether or not you believe the world is doomed might depend on where you get your news, says journalist Angus Hervey. He delivers stories of progress that mainstream media organizations missed last year — from advances in clean energy to declining rates of extreme poverty, crime and disease — and suggests we should pay more attention to such occurrences. "If we want more people to devote themselves to the task of making progress, then maybe we should be telling more people that it's possible to make progress," says Hervey.

Retired Ministers Committee
July Newsletter: Listening
to the Heart of Silence

Golden Hour on Tuesday, July 22

ZOOM LINK: Retired Ministers Golden Hour

“The quieter you become, the more you can hear.” — Ram Dass

July arrives wrapped in warmth and light. It is a time when the world feels expansive, open and full of life. It’s a month of independence and interdependence, of rest and ripening, of sunlit stillness and soul-deep inquiry.

This month, we honor the power of sacred solitude and the wisdom that rises when we pause long enough to truly listen within ourselves and with one another.

Golden Hour Gathering
Date: Tuesday, July 22, 2025
Time:
4 p.m. PT / 5 p.m. MT / 6 p.m. CT / 7 p.m. ET
Theme: Listening to the Heart of Silence
Location: Zoom Link
Theme: “Listening to the Heart of Silence”
PLEASE NOTE: There will be no Golden Hour in August.

In a world that often celebrates doing, this Golden Hour invites you to simply be and listen, rest and reflect in the loving company of fellow elders in ministry. No agenda; just presence, silence and optional sharing.

This gathering will be self-directed, designed to honor the inner teacher within each of us. We will open with a welcome and brief centering, then move into sacred silence and optional individual reflection. You are invited to simply be without pressure to speak or participate in any formal way.

Golden Hour Flow

Opening welcome and centering: A simple prayer or quote offered by a committee member to open the space.

Sacred silence: We sit together in the quiet of shared presence. Bring a candle, an image, a stone or anything that centers you in stillness.

Gentle reflection: An invitation to write, walk, rest or simply remain in stillness. You may choose to journal with this optional question:
  • What am I allowing myself to hear now that I could not hear before? (Consider the shift that happens when noise gives way to knowing.)
  • What is the silence growing in me? (A softness? A letting go? A return to something essential?)
  • Where is the mystery leading me next? (Without answers, what invitation is rising on its own?)
Sharing the silence: For those who feel called to speak from the heart, we’ll open the space for brief, sacred sharing no feedback, only listening

Closing blessing: A final word of gratitude and connection before we part.

A note on self-directed spirituality: There is a quiet courage in choosing stillness. In this season of life, we are invited not to fill space but to trust it. Not to push forward but to drop deeper. This Golden Hour is a gentle reminder that you are enough, even in silence. Your presence seen or unseen ripples with wisdom.

We look forward to being with you, just as you are.
