No Justification for Violence: A Call for Due Process, Compassion and Human Dignity

A Statement from CSL’s Spiritual Leader
Rev. Dr. Soni Cantrell-Smith on June 11, 2025

We, the Centers for Spiritual Living, are profoundly concerned by the recent ICE raids in Los Angeles and the President’s subsequent deployment of National Guard troops and the Marines. While we all agree that sound and rational immigration policy is important, these actions were taken without the consent of California’s governor. These events have inflicted deep wounds on communities already living under fear and uncertainty.

At the heart of Science of Mind is the recognition that every individual is a divine expression, deserving of dignity, respect and justice. Recent events highlight a fundamental injustice against humanity. During workplace raids and unchecked deportations — some occurring without warrants or legal representation — due process has been openly ignored. Many detainees, including longtime residents and parents, are being kept in crowded, inhumane conditions without basic necessities. Some have been deported under misleading circumstances, lacking proper paperwork altogether.

Dr. Ernest Holmes challenges us: “All the power of the universe is with you. Feel it, know it and then act as though it were true.”

Let these words inspire moral courage and wise action. The raids and military style response do not express life, peace or justice. Instead, they sow terror, erode trust and trample on essential constitutional rights that safeguard every person’s humanity.

The use of military force against civilians exercising peaceful protest, and the absence of legal protections, are profoundly inconsistent with the Science of Mind and the spirit of our nation. We stand in solidarity with Governor Newsom, Mayor Bass, legal advocates and all those who affirm that no person should be deprived of their rights or be torn from their families without due process.

In the face of this crisis, we call upon spiritual seekers and all people of goodwill to turn thought and prayer into compassionate action.

We can uphold due process by demanding legal representation, transparency and accountability for all. We can protect the vulnerable by supporting immigrant families and those unjustly targeted. We can pursue justice through peace by engaging in nonviolent advocacy that honors dignity.

True peace is not the absence of conflict. It is the presence of justice, equity, respect and the recognition of our shared human dignity. In this moment, let us act from the full power of our spiritual insight.

As Holmes reminds us, we carry divine potential to uplift and heal. Let that power guide our minds, words and deeds. Remember that CSL’s definition of sacred activism is “the intersection where consciousness becomes action, where prayer becomes movement and where spiritual principle becomes practice. Sacred activism is the activity of bringing our CSL Global Vision into reality.”

Practitioner Training Application Acceptance Closes July 15

If you’ve completed the six certificated Science of Mind prerequisite courses, you’re eligible to apply for Advanced Consciousness Studies (ACS) through CSL Online Education. The application period opens June 1 and closes July 15, 2025.

ACS is the first course in the Professional Practitioner Training sequence, but it’s also open to students who wish to deepen their personal spiritual growth — whether or not they plan to become a Licensed Practitioner.

Students who wish to continue on the path to becoming a Licensed Spiritual Practitioner must complete ACS before applying for the second course, Professional Practitioner Studies (PPS).

  • Apply for ACS: https://pub.csl.org/e/1087013/pment-becoming-a-practitioner-/dk2wfm/1686346956/h/n8B0K_blPbPO0pexE5Au-oqd7ero1vB_QifpI7SLaFY
  • Apply for PPS (after completing ACS): https://pub.csl.org/e/1087013/itual-development-ppt-courses-/dk2wfq/1686346956/h/n8B0K_blPbPO0pexE5Au-oqd7ero1vB_QifpI7SLaFY

Licensed Spiritual Practitioners are individuals of high spiritual consciousness and dedicated service. They are trained in Science of Mind principles, skilled in affirmative prayer, and they uphold a sacred code of ethics.

If you are not currently affiliated with a CSL member community, you may qualify to hold your license through the CSL Virtual Practitioner Program after completing both courses.

Retired Ministers Committee June Newsletter: It's Graduation!

Golden Hour Gathering on
Tuesday, June 24, 2025

The golden years are not a winding down, they are a deepening in.

As the days stretch even longer and the light continues into the evening, June invites us into a rhythm of celebration, reflection and pride. It’s graduation season. It is a time when young people don robes, receive blessings and step into the next chapter of their lives. But graduation is not just for the young. In New Thought, we recognize that the spiritual path unfolds in layers, always inviting deeper wisdom and broader love. This month, we ask: “What are we graduating into?”

We invite you to consider three key dimensions of this sacred time in our lives.

Spiritual Commencement
This is not an ending. It’s a beginning. Spiritual commencement is the unfolding of a new chapter marked not by titles or responsibilities, but by a soul-level emergence into deeper meaning, surrender and authenticity.

Radical Presence
In a culture of speed and noise, elders who embody calm, loving presence are spiritual revolutionaries. Radical presence means showing up with the fullness of who we are without fixing, comparing or rushing.

Quiet Harvest
There is a harvest we gather now which is not in applause or awards but in the soft knowing of a life well lived. The quiet harvest is the ripening of all that we have planted through years of service, love and growth.

Golden Hour Gathering
Date: Tuesday, June 24, 2025
Time:
4 p.m. PT, 5 p.m. MT, 6 p.m. CT, 7 p.m. ET
Location: Zoom Link
Theme: Graduation!

Join us for our June Golden Hour, a sacred space for elder, wise ministers to gather, reflect and be nourished by each other’s wisdom. This gathering will include a brief meditation, a thematic reflection and time for sharing.

As you prepare for our time together, we invite you to gently hold these questions in your heart:

  • What am I being invited to release and what am I being invited to become?Graduation always involves a letting go. Is there an old role, identity or pattern asking to be lovingly set down?
  • What does spiritual service look like now without the title or pulpit? Consider how your presence, more than your doing, may be your greatest ministry in this season.
  • What fruits of my life’s work am I quietly harvesting? Reflect on the lasting impact of your teaching, guidance and love, which are the fruits of your labor. Are there some of which you may only now be recognizing or receiving?

“To the soul, there is no retirement. Only returning. Only revealing. Only remembering.”

Spiritual Partnerships
Thank you, Dr. Sharon Hudson and Dr. Rebeka Pina, for your brief testimonies on the Golden Hour about the connections you have made with your ministerial spiritual partners. Dr. Rebeka was especially delighted to have a Spanish-speaking student since both of them have done their ministerial training in English, not their native language. Rebeka is able to provide her partner with advice that helped her move through the training. Dr. Sharon was delighted to be matched with the young student whom we saw on the brief video stating why she wanted a partner. Sharon and her partner are having a great experience in each of their meetings together.

I am finding that being a spiritual partner is not taking a lot of my time, but the time I do spend with my partner is uplifting, encouraging and enlightening. As the program continues, there are more students asking for a spiritual partner.

How about you? Are you ready to partner with a ministerial student who is looking for spiritual (and emotional/mental) support as he/she navigates through ministerial training? Respond to Lari Goold at LGoold@ATT.net.

If you are called to serve on this ever-evolving committee that serves the ministers who have alumni of the pulpit with a strong desire for service, relevance and celebration, contact Lari Goold at LGoold@ATT.net.

If you or someone you know is moving on from the pulpit let us know so we can honor and congratulate them.

Going to SOAR 2025 in Banff? Contact Deborah Gordon at RevGord@Shaw.CA and let her know you will be there. It’s a great opportunity for some folks to gather and connect in person.
